Little over a week ago, I was pretty convinced that there was simply nowhere in this city of ours that serves up both sushi and seafood that’s super-fresh, amazingly tasty and perfectly prepared all at the same time. Then, I came across a sophisticated little seafood spot in the trendy Morningside Shopping Centre that is Love Fish, and my mind completely changed!

I arrived at Love Fish on a rather chilly Monday evening for dinner with my boyfriend, Nik. We were instantly made to feel welcomed and comfortable by our friendly and very professional waiter, who showed us a cosy table in the middle of the restaurant. The ambiance was minimalistic but at the same time somewhat fancy, which I found to be rather delightful.

Nik and I both instantly admired the low light setting in the dining room, which made for a rather romantic feel. We noticed that there’s also a bar at the back of the restaurant in a lighter space, which boasts a variety of local wines and craft beers. What was also pretty cool were the fish mobiles hanging from the ceilings – talk about funky décor!

To start off, Nik and I both ordered two starters to share – the Fish Tacos (spiced fish, coleslaw, avocado and cilantro yoghurt) and the Tiger Rolls (prawn California rolls topped with prawn, avocado, crab caviar and wasabi spicy mayonnaise). Our starters reached the table quickly and were tremendously enjoyable, not to mention very well-sized portions. My favourite dish was the tacos, which were perfectly spiced.

For mains, I decided to go for the Nagoya Sushi Platter, which boasts salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, salmon roses, salmon nigiri, prawn nigiri and Dragon Rolls. Nik, on the other hand, went for the line fish in a lemon, butter and thyme sauce with a side of steamed vegetables. Our mains were also whipped up quickly, and were simply to-die-for!

My sushi platter consisted of some of the freshest, most flavourful sushi I’ve ever tasted. The sashimi and salmon roses were sublime! Nik’s fillet of fish was just as exceptional – perfectly cooked and amazingly tasty. We both enjoyed every last mouthful of our fabulous meals! Sadly, we didn’t have any room left for dessert after our feast, but I plan to revisit very soon to try the chocolate brownies and the salted caramel popcorn ice cream. Sounds delicious, right?

So, the next time you’re craving sushi or top-notch seafood, give this lovely spot a try – it’s sure to impress you! The menu is extensive and oh-so-tempting, the food is simply fantastic, the service is quick and very knowledgeable, and the setting is comfortable but at the same time trendy. It’s an ideal spot for a long, lazy lunch, a dinner with the girls, or a quick sushi and wine session.

Penny I follow two other food bloggers, one in Cape Town and the other in Sydney. They both always give prices of the dishes in their photos. If you would rather not be on record with an exact price, please put +- after it. This would at least give your readers some idea if the restaurant is within their budget!

Vivienne Thx for the information. Sounds very tempting! Please could you add some prices in the future. It always helps as sushi and sashimi tend to be expensive.
