I don’t know about you but nothing makes me feel better than a cappuccino and a slice of chocolate cake when I need some down-time. There’s just something comforting about it (hands up if you agree … you know I won’t judge you). So when I popped into Belle's Patisserie in Clearwater the other day, I had only one thing on my mind … sugary, sweet treats! That’s probably why I was more than intrigued when I found myself scouring their skinny menu for something tasty instead.

If you don’t know by now ... Belle's Patisserie has a skinny menu. (I’m ashamed to admit that I only discovered that recently.) Anyway, I know what you’re thinking (at least I think I do), how skinny can you possibly go to a place that sells the most heavenly cakes and treats? Well, you may be happy to know that Belles’ skinny menu has wheat-free, sugar-free, low carbohydrate value, vegan and even high protein value meal options … and I’m not even through the list. (Best of all, it’s all broken down for you at the bottom of the menu.)

After much deliberation, I decided to go with their Chopped Quinoa Salad (R75), which has a bit of baby spinach, feta, raw sweetcorn, pomegranate and mint (it really does taste as divine as it sounds!). Firstly, the portion is incredibly generous – I barely made it through my salad … talk about filling. I absolutely loved the pomegranate in the salad – it gives it such a fresh taste, not to mention the mint! You can also add a little smoked salmon or tuna for extra protein. I will admit that I indulged slightly and ordered a Freezochino (R36) – it’s just so good!

Onto the after-lunch treat (yes, you read me right). I just had to try Belles' Skinny Red Velvet Cupcake (R30). Why is it considered skinny you may ask? Well because it’s gluten-free (that includes wheat) and sugar-free. Now before you scoff at the thought of a sugar-free red velvet cupcake, you should know that it’s actually amazing! (I was even tempted to have another one.) So now you can have your cake and eat it too! (I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist!)

For those of you that have a specific eating regimen, or if you’re getting your body ready for summer (hello dresses, skirts and pretty, sleeveless tops!), Belles' skinny menu is definitely worth a try!
