OYO at Bedford Centre has been getting some rave reviews, so we just HAD to check it out to see if it was worth your time (and money)! We came away thoroughly impressed.

FYI – “Oyo” apparently means “wow” in Chinese, something that we thought was quite fitting once we had tasted the food! We were quite surprised to discover that the restaurant serves four types of Asian cuisine -  Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai and that they have hired a master chef from each of these countries just to make sure they are ticking the 'authenticity' box, so to speak.

The service is absolutely impeccable. Our waiter, Nyathi, advised us on all must-try meals, as well as constantly making sure we were comfortable. We took his advice and ordered a shared Starter Platter comprising Dim Sum, deep-fried calamari strips, mashed potato pears and sushi wrapped in omelette. The platter came with a range of different soy sauces which were phenomenal and really added to the pretty impressive flavour experience.

For the Main Course, we ordered the Sizzling Beef (served on a hot plate) and the Phad Thai (a prawn noodle dish served with vinegar, fish oil, chilli flakes and sugar – the sour, sweet, salty and hot flavours of Asian cuisine).

This really is an absolute must if you love Asian food, or even if you are looking to try something new. We recommend going with friends and sharing various dishes between you. It’s an experience to be savoured.

Weekly special: Order any noodles except duck at lunch time, Monday to Thursday and pay only R49.00.

Debbie Milligan ...this is our "special occasion" resturant, it is an absolutely oustanding resturant, food is always good, service is excellent and just by the way I would suggest you book if you are planning to go on a Friday or Saturday night to avoid being disappointed...
