Much as I love you all, (and heaven knows I do), I had to take a break from eating out for a while if I was ever going to fit back into my jeans. And so I sent one of my Editors, Shaun, to check out Kong Roast in Fourways – in a nutshell, he loved it!

When walking into Kong Roast, the first thing that caught my eye was the wine collection at the entrance, and I made a mental note to try one (or two) of the vintages on offer with my meal. The restaurant itself is divided into a number of areas - an oriental-style “eastern” section, the more modern “western” section, the large wooden deck or the bar! There is also an private dining room upstairs that can be rented out for functions or special occasions.

There are also two different menus – eastern and western, but you can order items from both, menus at will - perfect for couples or families with different preferences in cuisine!

And the food is SUPERB! To start, we ordered a platter of nibbles that included duck samoosas, crispy prawn spring rolls, chicken skewers and vegetarian rolls. They were served with an assortment of dips including a divine sweet chilli sauce and a peanut dip. Delicious!

For the main course, we ordered the Angry Duck (good but spicy), and Roast Duck served with a plum sauce, followed by Pistachio Brittle and Thai Silk (a deliciously sweet combination of white and dark chocolate mouse) for dessert. Had I known how gorgeous this dessert was I might have skipped the starter and main course and had extra helpings of this instead!

Although Kong Roast serves interesting Asian dishes such as dim sum with various fillings such as crab, spring onion and English mushroom, they also dish up comfort food. So if you are adventurous and want to try something like Ginger Fish but your significant other is a “meat and potatoes” kind of person, their menu includes Western comforts such as Rib-Eye Steak, Oxtail and Grilled Prawns.

Highly recommended - booking is advised.
