I used to love popping into MELT in the Benmore Shopping Centre for the world’s best hot chocolate – a back-to-school tradition with Kayla. And I’ve just discovered that they’ve moved to the new Nicolway Bryanston shopping centre and re-opened with a store that is bigger and better! Bonus!
You’ll find MELT on the lower level of the centre – just listen for sighs of happy customers getting a serotonin boost from the gorgeous array of homemade chocolates and treats on offer. While I browsed through the menu, Kayla somehow managed to charm a shop assistant into giving her some chocolates to try – and let me tell you, they are good! I ended up sampling an enormous slice of freshly-baked Red Velvet Cake and am ashamed to admit that I sent Steve back the very next day to get a second slice. It is phenomenally good. And addictive.
You’ll love the French Provencal look and feel of the store, and the fact that you can either buy chocolates to go (hand-picked by you and beautifully wrapped by them) or sit and indulge in something from their menu. Personally, I love the sound of their chocolate fondue (R65 for 2), homemade chocolate brownies or spring rolls (R35) and waffles served with honey and maple syrup (R25). There are also amazing milkshakes on offer, a variety of hot chocolates (try the chili) and freshly baked items on the display table. And while you sit and wait for your order, you can peek through the glass window and watch everything being freshly made right in front of your eyes.
It’s heaven, really. I demand that you try it.
